About Leitrim Cycling Festival
The Leitrim Cycling Festival returns to the coast this May for a joyful weekend celebrating bikes, biodiversity and community spirit. Running from 23 to 25 May, this year’s event is based in and around the Tullaghan Community Centre, with a full programme of free activities for all ages.
Kicking off on Friday with a launch feast and a storytelling session by Seamus O’Rourke, the evening continues with outdoor cinema and a film discussion exploring coastal cycling. Saturday and Sunday bring everything from coastal walks, CPR training and yoga to woodland crafts, bike maintenance workshops and community cycle rides.
Families can enjoy art workshops, the Teddy Bear’s Picnic, games and sensory activities, while those feeling competitive can test their skills in the annual slow bicycle race, a cycle training session or even a tug o’war on the coastal path. Talks and conversations with cyclists and advocates from across Ireland offer space for reflection and connection.
Local food and picnics are encouraged, with events like the stove demo challenge and tea-and-sandwich sessions inviting everyone to join in. Evening entertainment includes cards and board games, live music and a welcoming community dinner to wrap up the weekend.
The festival is entirely free to attend thanks to the support of generous sponsors and is organised by a small team of volunteers who are passionate about cycling, nature and the place they call home. Whether you’re a regular rider, a curious beginner or just looking for a great family day out, there’s something for everyone on Leitrim’s beautiful coastline.
