A mother spoke of her fear today after a man tried to snatch her baby out of her buggy in broad daylight earlier this week.

Sarah Conway told the Independent that the man tried to grab another child before turning his attention to her, on Dublin's Meath Street last Tuesday.

The man put his hand into the buggy and tried to lift her daughter out.

"He put his hand under my child in the pram, under her bum, and he started trying to lift the child out," she said.

"Thank god the child was strapped in, otherwise he would have taken her away. I always thought that if anyone ever did that to me or my children then I would just punch their lights out. I was so scared that I just ran", she added.

Ms Conway managed to escape the attacker and seek shelter in a nearby butcher's shop.

Gardaí have arrested a 41 year-old-man in connection with the incident and a file is now being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
