An Australian grandfather found a lottery ticket when cleaning out his car that was over one year old but turned out to be worth Aus$ 1 million dollars (€725,000).
Sky News report that the man, who wished to remain anonymous, was cleaning his car in New South Wales when he found the ticket at the bottom of a shopping bag.
"I'm glad I didn't just get the old bags and take them to the dump.”
He checked his numbers online and found out that he was now a millionaire
However, he wouldn't be had he purchased the ticket in Ireland or England as winners here have less time to claim their prize; ninety days in Ireland and six months in the UK.
The New South Wales lottery allows a very generous six years.
"I thought I'd been pretty stupid. I was thinking 'Wow! I could've thrown this out!' It got very close," he said.
"There's a few people who are going to benefit from this. I want to help the kids with their house payments and the grandkids with their education", he added.
