The annual Winter sales are not supposed to start until next week but some leading department stores already have discounted items on sale.

The Irish Independent reports that due to a volatile last quarter caused by Brexit, the US Election and sterling, returns have been down on last year.

As a result, some stores have already reduced prices on some items.

However, the real in-store 'Winter Sales' will not begin until after Christmas, although the Debenhams half-price sale starts online on December 24 and in-store from December 26.

The Brown Thomas and BT2 Winter Sale starts in stores nationwide on St. Stephen’s Day with shops in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Dundrum and Blanchardstown opening at 9am.

The Arnotts Winter Sale also starts in-store and online on December 26th from 9am, with up to 50pc of most departments.
