The weather is set to take a turn for the worst this week with heavy rain, severe frost and snow forecast.
Following some patches of rain along southern coasts this morning, it will become more widespread this afternoon bringing heavy rain with some hail and thunder, reports Met Eireann.
'It will turn cold quickly after dark with frost setting in early tonight. There will be fairly widespread showers too, with some falling as sleet and snow even at low levels. They will be heaviest and most frequent in the western half of the country'.
Tuesday will be another cold day with some bright or sunny spells, but further sleet or snow showers in the morning followed by rain in the afternoon.
Wednesday and Thursday will remain cold with frost again on both nights. However, it’s looking cold for most of the week, turning milder with dry and sunny days over next weekend.
