A weather warning is in place for Ireland across this Christmas weekend.

Met Eireann report that "a potentially stormy spell of weather is likely later this week and over the Christmas weekend.”

"In particular, Friday looks like bringing stormy weather, with the north and west most at risk, but the details are still uncertain at this stage."

The rain will clear to scattered showers and it will turn colder with some showers turning wintry on Friday night and early Saturday.

Saturday will be cold and showery at first with good sunny spells but it will become cloudy with rain spreading eastwards later. The rain is likely to turn heavy before clearing to scattered showers on Sunday and staying windy

The status yellow weather warning is in place for the entire country from Thursday December 22nd until Monday December 26th.
