An 11-year-old girl was airlifted off a mountain in Clare this evening after she was injured in a fall.

The Examiner reports that girl had been hiking with her mother and another family member on Aillwee Mountain in the Burren.

The young girl was located by the Shannon based search and rescue helicopter, which fortunately had been on a training exercise in the area at the time, and airlifted to a field near the Ailwee Caves.

After an initial assessment the girl was transferred to hospital by ambulance.
