Kilkenny Arts Festival returns from 6th to 16th August 2026 for eleven days of outstanding music, theatre, visual art, literature, dance and family entertainment. Recognised as one of Ireland’s leading arts festivals for more than 50 years, it transforms Kilkenny’s medieval streets, churches, castles, gardens and historic buildings into unique performance spaces, welcoming leading Irish and international artists.
Families will find plenty to enjoy throughout the festival. Highlights include StormFest’s family productions The Dig, The Fisher and His Wife and Penny and the Far Thing, alongside interactive installations such as Light Up the Castle: Rift, Secret Garden concerts, creative workshops and exhibitions. The city itself becomes part of the experience, with performances and events taking place in beautiful venues including Kilkenny Castle, St Canice’s Cathedral, Rothe House, Butler Gallery and picturesque gardens across the city.
Alongside its family programme, the festival features an exceptional line-up of classical, folk and contemporary music, theatre premieres, literary events, visual art exhibitions and artist talks. Whether visiting for a single performance or spending the weekend exploring Kilkenny, the festival offers a memorable mix of culture, creativity and entertainment in one of Ireland’s most historic cities.
