Dublin Lunar New Year

Dublin’s main Lunar New Year celebration takes place at Wolfe Tone Square this Sunday with a full afternoon of free performances and family activities to welcome the Year of the Horse. Hosted by Festival Ambassador Jinny Ly, the event brings together artists and performers from Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese and Mongolian communities in the heart of the city. Expect lion dances from the Flower City Dragon and Lion Dance Association, Korean Samulnori drumming, Tai Chi demonstrations, K-Pop performances, excerpts of Peking Opera and martial arts, alongside traditional music from Mongolia’s Khuur Band. Families can also enjoy face painting, calligraphy, traditional games and street food, with a full programme running throughout the day.

Elsewhere in the city, Hill Street also hosts a free community Lunar New Year celebration on the same afternoon, with performances, workshops and food in Dublin 1.

Brigit's Garden

Fresh air, wide open space and room for young imaginations to roam freely await at Brigit’s Garden this mid-term break. Set across beautiful themed gardens in the west of Ireland, it offers families the chance to explore, play and learn together in a relaxed outdoor setting.

Children can lead the way on the Earth Quest, solving fun challenges around the gardens from the water engineering play area and pedal-powered generator to the weather station and giant sundial. Younger visitors can follow the Nature Detectives Trail, searching for signs of wildlife along the way and collecting a reward at the end. Open Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm, it’s a refreshing family day out over the break

GoQuest

The weather doesn't matter at GoQuest which offer a high-energy indoor option for families over the mid-term break. GoQuest Junior is designed for children aged five to twelve, with 22 interactive rooms combining puzzles, physical challenges and teamwork in a safe, weather-proof setting. For older children, teens and groups, GoQuest Arena provides a fast-paced team challenge experience. Located in Carrickmines with free parking, Luas access and an on-site café, it is a practical choice for a mid-term day out indoors.

Tearaways Pet Farm & Activity Centre
Tipperary | Open Thursday-Sunday

Tearaways is open across the mid-term break, offering a mix of indoor and outdoor activities for families. Indoors, children can enjoy slides, tunnels, ball pits and a dedicated toddler area, while outside there are go-karts, a barrel train, playgrounds and a pet farm with plenty of animals to meet. With food served on site and activities suited to different ages, it works well as a mid-term option whatever the February weather.

Bunratty Castle & Folk Park
Clare | Open Thursday-Sunday

Step back in time this mid-term at Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. Families can explore the Horrible Histories trail, meet the resident Irish wolfhounds, watch whiskey making at J.J. Corry and see traditional candle making at Made in Crecora. An interactive clue trail adds extra fun for children and adults, with a chance to win a family pass. Food is available on site at The Earl’s Pantry, The Tea Rooms and The Corn Barn.

Spring Potions Workshop
