The closing weekend of National Heritage Week is packed with family events nationwide. In Dublin, Dún Laoghaire Harbour hosts bilingual kayak heritage tours across the weekend. Families in Wexford can join a shield-making workshop in Ferns on Saturday while Cork offers seashore exploration in Bantry Bay. History fans can step back in time at the Battle of the Boyne in Meath or take in the Bandon Walled Town Festival in Cork.
Dalkey Lobster Festival

The Dalkey Lobster Festival returns to the south Dublin coast this August with a packed weekend of food, music and family fun. Castle Street transforms into Cuisine de Dalkey, serving seafood favourites from lobster rolls to oysters, while Tramyard Village hosts an expanded market and Dalkey Town Hall showcases fine art and crafts.
Live music runs across the weekend with performances from acts including Purple Jam, Jamie Duff, Robin McGuinness, Paddy Sherlock and guests, and The U2 Hour with Niall Donnelly. The KidsZone offers magic shows, carousel rides, face painting and more, ensuring entertainment for all ages.
Family Fun Day

UCD Classical Museum will be throwing open its doors on Heritage Week Saturday for lots of family fun. There will be treasure hunts, trails and lots more fun besides!
Tipperary Museum Family Day

Mick Delahunty Square in Clonmel will be transformed into a medieval settlement for Tipperary Museum’s free family day celebrating the town’s origins as a walled settlement. Visitors can meet re-enactors, handle artefacts and watch traditional crafts from weaving to stonework, with plenty of chances to get involved.
Families can also join the Big Dig excavation with the School of Irish Archaeology, while Clonmel Library hosts a lecture by Michael Fortune at 11.30am and storytelling with Bálor at 2pm. Art and craft workshops with Evelyn Kelly will take place in the Museum at 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm.
Skerries Mills Harvest Time Festival

Skerries Mills will celebrate the harvest season with a special open day in the historic crop fields. Visitors can enjoy live music, traditional demonstrations, harvest knot-making and children’s crafts, with face painting available for a small fee. The day also offers the chance to watch the crops being gathered on-site, marking an annual tradition that connects community and land.
Set in the seaside town of Skerries, the Mills are home to three working mills that remain iconic symbols of natural energy. The crop fields are a short walk from the train station and town centre, though there is no event parking.
Éireann by A Taste of Ireland

Castletown River & Nature Festival

Celebrate Heritage Week with two special events highlighting the beauty of the Ahare River and its wildlife. On Saturday, Don Conroy presents Drawn to the Wild at Castletown National School (fully booked, cancellation list available). On Sunday, Clone Strand hosts a free family fun day with sand art, treasure hunts and races. Both events are free but require booking.
