About Dead Zoo Lab Discovery Zone Drop-In
The National Museum of Ireland hosts a series of interactive drop-in sessions at the Dead Zoo Lab in Collins Barracks, offering families a hands-on introduction to natural history. Taking place across selected dates from March through April, each two-hour session invites visitors to explore themed topics through short, engaging activities.
During each visit, families can take part in a guided activity lasting around five to ten minutes, led by a Museum Educator. These sessions focus on different themes, including “Fur, Footprints and Poo” and “Feathered Friends”, giving children the opportunity to learn about animals and their environments in a practical way. Participants can handle a range of real and replica objects from the Museum’s collection, including furs, fossils, bones and minerals.
Alongside the guided element, visitors can complete a self-led activity sheet, choosing and drawing their favourite animal from the displays. The drop-in format allows families to explore at their own pace, with no booking required, although short waiting times may apply. Suitable for all ages, the sessions are designed to be accessible and encourage curiosity, making them a strong option for an educational day out during the Easter period.
