Old Fort Quarter Festival, Portlaoise
The Old Fort Quarter is the area of Portlaoise town centre in which the original 'Fort of Maryborough' was situated. The Old Fort Quarter Festival celebrates the heritage of the Old Fort of Maryborough in Portlaoise taking place from Friday 28th to Sunday 30th June 2019. The Old Fort Quarter Festival in Portlaoise is now in its 4th year. The Old Fort Quarter Festival combines the history and heritage of Portlaoise with music, food and family entertainment in one unforgettable weekend. 2018 saw 22,000 people on the streets of Portlaoise over the 3 days of the festival and this year’s festival will be the biggest and best yet. Over three days, the Old Fort Quarter will come alive with traditional medieval activities such as archery and shield-making. The historic streets will be a hive of activity with live street theatre, artisanal food markets and live music along with lots of activities for young children. Historians will host heritage exhibitions, offering a window into medieval life at the Old Fort of Maryborough. This year also sees the introduction of a Laois Heritage Pub trail with all participating pubs having live music and entertainment each night of the festival.
