Lough Gur Heritage Centre
The Heritage Centre located by the lakefront in Lough Gur was fully refurbished and restored in 2013. The exhibition within provides an overview of one of Ireland’s most important archaeological sites. It is the only area in the country where you can see visible evidence of every age since Neolithic times.
The Centre will provide visitors with information on the surrounding sites and attractions in the local area.
Lough Gur Visitor Centre will allow the whole family to discover over 6,000 years of history at Lough Gur, using audiovisual presentations, artefacts, interactive touch screens, and more.
Kids of all ages will find something to entertain and educate them, with a number of interactive elements, such as an archaeological dig model, a Neolithic reconstruction model, and a dressing up corner!
A great variety of wildlife can also be found in the area, including loads of waterfowl, such as ducks, geese, swans, coots and more. Birds of Prey including Barn owls and Kestrels can also be seen, plus a variety of waders, gulls and lots of songbirds. A great place for birdwatchers and nature lovers, especially during the summer when it is full of butterflies and dragonflies.
A number of different tours are available to help you and the kids explore this wonderful place, but if you would prefer to do it alone, free audio trail guides are available online. There is also a great calendar of events so check online before your visit to see what's on
