St Patrick's Day Parade, Waterford
The Waterford City St Patrick’s Day Parade takes place on March 17th annually.
For the 2019 St. Patrick's Day Parade we will celebrate Colour, Culture and Community. The route will become a vibrant celebration of what makes our communities special. The parade will be led by our 2019 Grand Marshalls, Des & Mona Manahan.
The Parade will take place on Sunday the 17th of March leaving the Glen at 1pm, continuing down the Quay and onto the Mall and will finish at Bishops Palace. The route will take the parade into the heart of the Viking Triangle, past Reginalds Tower and 33 the Mall where the Irish Tricolour was flown for the first time in 1848.
As Ireland’s oldest city, Waterford City was the first City to declare St Patricks Day a national holiday. In 1903, Waterford Corporation declared that St Patrick’s Day should be a general holiday throughout the City and to entirely suspend business that day.
Before this St Patrick’s Day was not a national holiday in Ireland.
