Tales From Acorn Wood

Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s Tales from Acorn Wood comes to University Concert Hall this Saturday, bringing Fox, Rabbit, Pig, Hen and Postman Bear to the stage with puppetry, toe-tapping songs and plenty of fun for young children. The tour continues next week with performances at The Civic in Tallaght and the Pavilion Theatre in Dún Laoghaire.

IFI Family Festival

IFI Family Festival returns this weekend with three days of films and activities for young cinema fans. Families can enjoy animated shorts, international films, Looney Tunes Classics and a restored screening of Into the West, alongside foyer activities and Summer Soccer with Bohemian FC in Meeting House Square on Sunday.

End Of Summer Party

Castle Adventure Open Farm is marking the end of the summer holidays with a family party packed with activities. Children can cheer on the sheep racing, bounce around on the inflatables, dance at the mini disco, enjoy face painting and meet their favourite farm animals. The event takes place on Sunday 23rd August and must be booked in advance.

Ould Lammas Fair

The Ould Lammas Fair returns to Ballycastle with four days of markets, street entertainment, music and family fun. Dating back to the seventeenth century, Ireland’s oldest fair fills the town with hundreds of stalls selling local produce, crafts and food, alongside funfair attractions and the traditional horse trading village.

Visitors can also sample the fair’s famous Yellow Man and dulse while enjoying the atmosphere of one of Ireland’s longest-running summer traditions.

Summer of Robotics

Explorium’s Summer of Robotics brings robots, coding and hands-on science to Science Alive this August. Families can meet new robots, watch live demonstrations, see the Robo Dogs in action and explore workshops featuring robotic creations, electronics and an introduction to coding. Summer of Robotics and Mission Curiosity activities are included with a regular Science ticket. Explorium Junior will also feature creative hands-on robot activities throughout the summer, with a separate Junior ticket required.

National Heritage Week

National Heritage Week continues into its final week with hundreds of events celebrating Ireland’s history, culture, nature and local communities.

Families can enjoy the Heritage Family Fun Day in Bandon, the Grand Canal Festival and Family Fun Day in Kildare, a picnic in the garden in Galway, the Nurture in Nature Festival in Castleblayney and family foraging in Clare. There are also markets, wildlife activities, traditional crafts, music and local festivals taking place around the country, with many events free to attend.
