Ballyhoura Walking & Joyce Brothers Music Festival

This October, the Ballyhoura region hosts a unique weekend that blends traditional music and storytelling with guided walks and outdoor exploration. The festival celebrates the lives and legacy of the Joyce Brothers through a packed schedule of concerts, singing and dancing workshops, nature walks and historical tours.
The event kicks off with a gala concert on Thursday night led by Ciarán Ó Gealbháin and continues through the weekend with traditional sessions in local pubs, family-friendly activities, and a lively intercultural food fair at Scoil Pól. Music workshops for beginners and advanced players offer a chance to learn from acclaimed musicians, while walking enthusiasts can take on everything from heritage strolls to the 42km Sunrise-to-Sunset Challenge.
Festival-goers can explore the Joyce Homestead, join in a whistling walk or enjoy a performance from puppeteer Des Dillon. Other highlights include alpaca walks, a yoga loop trail, and a bug safari for younger explorers. Many daytime events are free or low-cost, while evening concerts cost €10–€20.
With its mix of culture, history and adventure, the Ballyhoura Walking & Joyce Brothers Music Festival offers something for all ages – whether you’re here for the music, the miles or the stories.
