Glen of Aherlow Winter Walking Festival

The Glen of Aherlow Fáilte Society, in association with the Galtee Walking Club, returns with the annual Glen of Aherlow Winter Walking Festival in early 2026. Taking place over a January weekend, the festival invites walkers to experience the Glen at its most peaceful, with crisp winter scenery and quieter mountain trails offering a different perspective on this well-loved part of Tipperary.
The festival programme focuses on guided winter walking through corrie lakes, open mountain, woodland trails and forest tracks, all led by experienced members of the Galtee Walking Club. Walks are carefully planned to suit a range of abilities, with three graded options available each day, making the event suitable for groups, clubs and individual walkers alike.
The weekend traditionally begins with a relaxed Friday evening walk, setting the tone for the days ahead. Saturday and Sunday offer a choice of longer upland routes and gentler valley walks, allowing participants to tailor the experience to their own pace and preference. A courtesy bus operates during the festival and the Aherlow House Hotel serves as the base point for all walks.
With local accommodation, food and nightly entertainment available throughout the weekend, the Glen of Aherlow Winter Walking Festival offers an enjoyable way to stay active during the winter months while exploring one of Ireland’s most scenic walking areas
