As January draws to a close, the air is alive with the sound of music

Whether it’s the approach of Imbolc or simply an opportunity to kick-start the year with local culture, the final week of the month has become a tradition for celebrating Irish music. At the heart of these festivities is the ever-expanding TradFest, which began in Temple Bar and now spans venues across Dublin. The fun festival showcases the very best of traditional and folk music while offering families the chance to participate in céilís and workshops.

TradFest 2025
Dublin Various | Wednesday 23rd - Sunday 27th

TradFest returns to Dublin this January to celebrate its 20th anniversary as Ireland’s premier trad and folk festival. This vibrant event transforms the city with live music, workshops and cultural experiences in stunning venues both in the city centre and beyond.

This year’s highlights include Family Workshops at The Ark in Temple Bar, a lively Family Céilí at Balscadden Community Centre or Glenasmole Community Centre on Saturday and another at the Séamus Ennis Arts Centre on Sunday.

On Sunday afternoon, don’t miss Banjos for Barney McKenna, where talented young banjo players and special guests pay tribute to the legendary musician. Visitors can also Try the Pipes or Bodhrán at Clondalkin Library.

Performances throughout the weekend feature a stellar line-up, including Seán Keane, Emma Langford, The Henry Girls, Phelim Drew, and many more. 

If you can't make it do Dublin, this weekend also marks the start of Féile na Tána in Louth, Imbolc Music Festival in Derry and Letterkenny Trad Week.

Dinos Alive
Dublin | Thursday-Monday

Dinos Alive brings the prehistoric world to life in an immersive Jurassic-themed exhibition in Dublin. Featuring over 80 life-sized, moving dinosaur replicas, this experience allows visitors to walk alongside some of the most iconic creatures of the era, including the mighty T-Rex, Stegosaurus and Velociraptors.

In addition to exploring realistic dinosaur habitats, visitors can dive into a virtual aquarium to encounter Jurassic marine giants and learn about the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods in a fun, interactive way. For those seeking a deeper experience, the exhibition offers a captivating VR adventure that transports participants further into the world of dinosaurs. Young palaeontologists can also enjoy the “Budding Experts” interactive space, where they can dig for fossils and tame dinosaurs. This exhibition is an unforgettable family day out that combines education and excitement.

Dublin Lunar New Year Festival
Dublin | January 26th - February 2nd

Celebrate the Year of the Snake at Dublin’s Lunar New Year Festival, which showcases the rich traditions of communities including China, Vietnam, South Korea, and beyond. With a diverse range of activities, the festival invites everyone to join in the celebrations.

This weekend’s events include a Paper Cutting Workshop at the Central Library on Saturday at 2:30pm, a Zodiac Animals in Miniature drop-in activity at the Chester Beatty Library at 3pm and a Family Art Workshop at the National Gallery of Ireland on Sunday from 11:30am. Visitors to Dublin Zoo can also attend a Snake Workshop, where they’ll explore the characteristics, behaviours and habitats of four snake species while dispelling some common myths! This festival is a wonderful way to experience the magic and diversity of Lunar New Year traditions in advance of the main celebrations the following weekend.

Courtney's Daredevil Circus

Get ready for an adrenaline-fuelled spectacle like no other as Courtney’s Daredevil Circus Tour roars into Portarlington for three thrilling days!
