Things To Do In Donegal
Donegal is Ireland's north-western most county. Donegal offers a beautiful coastline, mountain views, and offers a truly Irish experience. With a number of ancient castles, national parks, monuments, gardens and attractions, Donegal is full of natural beauty. Donegal is the ideal weekend getaway, but also provides more than enough sights for longer visits.
The Cliffs of Slieve League
The Cliffs of Moher get all the limelight, but in my opinion the Cliffs of Slieve League are way more impressive. The cliffs are higher in fact, and rank among the highest in Europe, at almost 600 metres above sea level. That's almost three times the height of their more famous sister cliffs in Clare. Couple that with the unspoilt, less commercial nature of the cliffs, and you should definitely put this on your list of things to do in Donegal. Worth it alone for the white knuckle drive up the montain.
Surfs Up
Donegal gets surf too you know! In fact, while nearby Sligo and Clare both compete for the mantle of Ireland's best surf spot, Donegal is home to the biggest and best wave in Ireland. A mile off the Donegal Coast lies Mullaghmore, considered one of the biggest waves in the world. Donegal has surf schools in Bundoran, Dunfanaghy and Rossnowlagh, where they'll have you catching waves in no time. And not to forget Donegal is home of the Sea Session Music Festival. Northern Lights
The Northern Lights are one of the wonders of the world. They can only be seen from a relatively few places on Earth, and Donegal happens to offer some of the best views. Inishowen, Dunaff, Mamore Gap and Malin Head are some of the best spots to see the Northern Lights.
Road Trip
Take a drive through the spectacular Glengesh Pass and it's white knuckle ride roads. Donegal roads can be small, windy and full of potholes. More donkey than Daihatsu. If you still have energy left, strap on your hiking boots and head for the Ards Forest Park and it's stunning views that will leave you breathless.
